OOTD: Hyuna for Halloween

December 04, 2015 • Beauty & Fashion

In the regular world, Halloween is when children dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In girl world it’s the one night a year I can dress in dramatic K-pop fashion and take photos! The most enticing thing about K-pop is the stylish fashion that I would never wear on the streets here.

Halloween was more than a month ago, but oh well! Please go easy on me, this is my first time doing an Outfit of the Day post.

I picked Hyuna, simply because I love that girl. She is beautiful, talented, stylish, and a fierce on-stage persona that sharply contrasts her normal sweet and shy self. Though I do think her recent music videos have become sketchier and sketchier that I don’t even want to watch them anymore, her songs are still as catchy as ever. It doesn’t change the fact that she has great talent as singer, rapper, and dancer.

The multiple faces of Hyuna.

Her fashion concept in the “Melting” album is amazing, so I picked it for my Halloween costume.

My Vans up close.

My costume consists of (links to items at bottom):

  1. Red wig. I’ve always wanted red mermaid hair but since I’m stuck with loving my thin and fading reddish hair, how could I pass up the chance to wear this wig? Out of all the wigs I’ve tried, this one is the best and doesn’t tangle easily like those cheap Halloween ones. It’s more permed than the product photo but that worked out great for me! I also gave it a little trim so I could have a front fringe.
  2. Floral headscarf. I don’t usually put things in my hair, but I love how Hyuna tied this to her cap to make an adorable combination!
  3. A generic cap. From this I learned that baseball caps come in curved bills and flat bills, and that if you want to see your face, you need a flat bill. Oops.
  4. Denim shirt from Uniqlo. I don’t own denim tops but I bought this on a sale to try out. Didn’t think I would like it so much!
  5. Rounded t-shirt from Esprit. I bought my t-shirt from Esprit Hong Kong more than two years ago and that store doesn’t exist in this country anymore sadly, but I did find a similar top if you’re interested in buying from Hong Kong. What I love about this shirt is that the bottom is rounded which gives it the cute edge that isn’t present in the everyday t-shirt.
  6. Generic denim shorts. Yup.
  7. Vans Sk8-Hi. These high tops the first pair of sneakers I bought since the beginning of college because all the girls at school only wore heels and boots and I gave into peer pressure. In high school I used to wear Converses but I’m not much of a fan of that brand because of the thin soles. Vans are like thicker Converses that are comfortable and far more adorable! I could not find my two-toned high tops online but I found the same style with a Disney print. So cute!
  8. Lastly ignore my tights and cami. Those were to help me with the cold. It was about 56°F (13°C) and still freezing!

I have no idea who this Hyuna is (I so do not follow K-entertainment LOLOL) and I don’t even care to find out, I think you make an excellent Hyuna! Your outfit is so cute, and I think it’s pretty clever to be a K-whatever star for Halloween! That’s definitely easier to do, and you just mish-mash what you have in your closet! 😀 I really do like that look on you. But explain to me why it wouldn’t feel right to wear the stylish K-pop fashion over there? I would think NYC, especially, would have people wearing all sorts of things, so K-pop fashion wouldn’t be something that odd to wear!

Liv Reply:

Aw thank you! Hehe. In NYC we usually dress up for work. To some people that would be business and to others such as myself who work in casual workplaces it would be girly blouse top, cardigan, and non-blue jeans. I have friends from out of state or country who say I’m always dressed city chic haha. Just my style doesn’t really call for stylish K-pop stuff. It tends to be subtle! 🙂

Ahhh, thanks for explaining! I still say dress what you want, but if your style is more subtle, then that’s fine, too :3

I love your outfit – you look great. My favourite items are your denim shirt and Vans. I definitely want to invest in a pair of Vans now! I wouldn’t just wear that on Halloween either, it’d look great as an every day outfit.

I love the look! I first saw Hyuna in a music video a few years ago, and I think she was the featured artist, not the main singer of the song. I thought she was really pretty. I watched more videos with her and like you, also judged her for making the moves she did, until I found out (from a friend) that she didn’t choose to do that. I wouldn’t say I was slut-shaming but I thought, ‘Hmm, has she thought about the impact of what she is doing?’

It’s a shame that she was slut-shamed, though, because I think she is beautiful and talented. You did a great job with the outfit, too, you really captured her style.

I really like the outfit! I love the red color of the wig, and I think the floral headscarf and cap is a cute look. I like the demin shirt too! That’s nice that Halloween gave you the chance to wear some K-pop fashion that you normally wouldn’t wear 😀

I think we have the same denim shirt. Closet twins!! XD You look so cute. You pulled off the look well. 😀

I don’t follow K-pop but I’ve heard of Hyuna plenty of times. It’s a shame she was shamed in the beginning. She was still very young, and probably pressured to exploit her beauty for gain. You don’t really get to have a lot of say with how your job works when you’re just starting out.

Love the outfit!! I don’t keep up with K-pop but I remember Hyuna from the Psy’s music video and thinking how pretty she was 😀 You did a great job putting together her look!
